A New Approach to Evangelism
A New Approach to Evangelism
One of the things Our Ministry Does for the Local Church
One of the focuses of our ministry is to help churches become more outreach oriented. . We firmly believe that evangelism must be more than a program or something we do once a week or month. If our evangelism is to emulate the New Testament then it must be who we are not just something we do. The doing should always follow who we are. If we do something that is not in our DNA we are just role playing. Perhaps that is why Jesus said, ‘You ARE salt…..You ARE light’.
It is our goal to impart the DNA of evangelism and outreach into the body of Christ. By imparting the DNA of evangelism we become an evangelistic church not a church that does evangelism. Our DNA identifies who we are and who we are dictates what we do, and what we do becomes our destiny. When a local church receives the DNA of evangelism it will begin to change who we are, and then what we do. Adding more activities and programs just frustrates God’s people if the DNA is not there first.
Is evangelism something that we do? Absolutely yes! But when evangelism is who we are the doing is not burdensome. Jesus said, ‘His commands are not burdensome’. Evangelism becomes easy and light. Jesus said, ‘take my yoke upon you, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’ The ways of God are suppose to be easy and light. Some how we have managed to make evangelism hard and heavy when Jesus wants His ways to be easy and light. The only way to rediscover the easy and light of evangelism is for us to receive the DNA
Can you imagine taking the DNA of evangelism and igniting it with the power of the Holy Spirit? Acts 1:8 says ‘we will become witnesses.’ The combination of the Holy Spirit united with our identity, we will see “the Lord add to the churches daily such as should be saved.’
One of our approaches to accomplish this is to go to a church for at least one month and spend time with the leadership and minister to the entire church. It takes time to impart identity, but we have learned that in a months’ time the discovery begins to take place. The more time we have teaching, preaching and fellowshipping with the church the faster the impartation takes place.
I know there had to be a reason why the Apostles spent more than a few days at the local churches when they came to town. I am sure it had to do with impartation. Perhaps a return to their methods will bring their results.
